I ordered it 2 days ago, started reading it and did not put it down until I read the last page…her story is most unbelievable. Reading the first few chapters had me crying and thinking how could she possible survive what she was going through. She is one tough lady, to be greatly admired!!! I am still gathering my wits about me after finishing this memoir. Wow! My heavens this woman lived through unbelievable circumstances! There is something in this book that will speak to all hippies and children who lived in the 70's. What a messy, challenging, scary life with lots of tough choices due to not having any parental guidance or love & being forced to be a parent to several siblings. After all is said & done, she pulled herself up by her bootstraps & not only is alive today miraculously, but done her self-work to be able to convey her life in this book. Bravo Charlotte! Her life has been anything but monotonous. This well-written and engrossing narrative takes the reader from troubled youth through the drug-fueled sixties and seventies and into today. A childhood of abandonment, neglect, and serious parental abuse transforms into a story of courage, survival, and--ultimately--transcendent self-discovery. Strap in for the roller coaster ride of Charlotte's life! She raises her 7 siblings, gets pregnant (twice), 2 adoptions, spends time in jail, falls madly in love and oh yeah, all this and you're not even through Part 1 of the book. Baby Doll grips you every page and Charlotte's hippie, make love not war life, will make you laugh and cry all the way to the unsuspecting ending. I'm recommending this book to everyone I know! I had to stop reading halfway and force myself to wait to read the rest on a day off. I kept thinking about the book even then. I finished the book on the second reading. I love books that transport me to another place and time and captivate me to the point that I don’t want to leave until I’ve read every last word. That seldom happens these days.
